The following destinations can all be reached within an hour’s drive of San Luigi:
CHIANTI: The Chianti region between Florence and Siena is famous not only for its wines but also the wooded landscape of cypress, olive, and oak trees, interspersed with vineyards and picturesque towns and villages.
CORTONA: This Etruscan town over-looking the Val di Chiana is an attractive tourist location, made all the more famous by the film Under the Tuscan Sun and books of Frances Mayes.
SAN GIMIGNANO: the ‘medieval Manhattan’, city of the belle torri (beautiful towers), rises dramatically above the vineyards producing the Vermentino white wine.
THE TUSCAN COAST: Driving through the wilder countryside to the west of San Luigi, brings you to the Parco Naturale della Maremma which runs along the southern Tuscan coastline dotted with beaches, fishing villages and nature reserves.

One of the great things about Buonconvento, and something we only discovered after we bought San Luigi, is the railway station. Just two minutes walk from the centre of town, trains run frequently between Siena and Grosseto, with a morning and evening service connectin Buonconvento and Florence, arriving just in time to enjoy a morning espresso before absorbing the sights and sounds of the cradle of the Renaissance, including its many museums, Duomo and markets; enjoying a lunch alongside the Arno before returning in the early evening to Buonconvento.
